MIDDLE SCHOOL VOCABULARY COLOR- Color is not needed for a good design. In fact a design can be done totally in black and white. Color can flavor a piece of art, clothing, architecture or how you decorate a room. Warm colors are bright and can make a room seem vibrant. Blue and greens can give a subdued feel to a space. Analogous color- Three colors next to one another on a color wheel. For instance Red, Red-orange and orange is an Analogous color scheme. Colors in this scheme have similiear qualities and can be used together in a design harmoniously. Complimentary Color Scheme- Two colors directly across from one another on a wheel, for instance Red and Green, orange and blue, or yellow green and red violet. Split complimentary color Scheme- look to a base color such as red, then go across to it's compliment but then split to each side of it's compliment to find the split complimentary color scheme. For instance Red, blue green and yellow green. Triadic Color Scheme- Three colors in the shape of a triangle on the wheel. For instance the first three colors Red, Yellow and Blue. the next color scheme is secondary color scheme is violet, orange, and green. Tint- Any color mixed with white. Pink is made from Red and white, this is a good example of a Tint. Tone- When two complimentary colors are mixed together another way to say this is grayed colors. Shade- Any color mixed with black. You can mixe red with black and get maroon. Hue- The pure state of a color. . . .or pure color Value- The light or dark of an object. is it a light value or a dark value? Grayed Color- When you mix two complimentary colors together you get a grayed color. Cool colors- the color group of Blues, Greens and Violets. These colors should remind you of water and cool things. Warm colors- the color group of Red, yellow and Oranges. These colors should remind you of heat and fire. Black- Is not a color. it is the abscence of all light. White- Is not a color. It is the presence of all light. When you put all the colors of the rainbow together you get white light. Primary colors- Red, Yellow and Blue. These colors can't be mixed they are made from elements found in the ground or in plants or other substances. These three colors make all the other colors of the rainbow. Secondary Colors- The next set of colors that are made from the Primary colors, Violet, Orange and Green. These colors plus the Primary colors make up the next set of colors. . . . Intermediate or Tertiary Colors- The secondary and the primary colors mixed together. when you say the Intermediate colors you always say the primary color first. For instance, Red violet, yellow green, etc. Asymmetrical vs Symmetrical- Uneven balance versus Even balance. Color Wheel- The full range of colors that an artist illustrates in twelve colors to explain what colors make what colors. |
