Valley Park Voters show School Support with Passage of Proposition E
Unofficial election results show that Valley Park voters approved Proposition E – a $4 million no tax rate increase bond issue. Nearly 75% of those casting ballots voted yes on Prop E on the April 6th ballot. The referendum needed a four-sevenths (57.14%) majority to pass. Prop E will not increase the district’s current debt service tax rate which is dedicated to the repayment of the district’s bonds.
The passage of Prop E allows the Valley Park School District to borrow money to address five critical areas in the District facilities’ infrastructure, including: (1) replacing worn-out and leaking roofs; (2) replacing out-of-date HVAC systems, and adding air conditioning in the kitchen and varsity gym; (3) updating computers and technology throughout the district; (4) extending the cafeteria and lobby entrance to the varsity gym; and (5) adding lighting to parking lots.
“We appreciate the strong support of Valley Park community members,” says Valley Park School District Superintendent Dr. David Knes. “Some of our school facilities are over 50 years old. The bonds will finance building improvements that will keep them up to date.”
Building progress updates will be posted on the information page: http://www.vp.k12.mo.us/district/bondissue/bondissue.html.
