Valley Park Middle School will host a Parent Symposium on Mental Health February 27th
Marian McCord, executive director from CHADS (Communities Healing Adolescent Depression and Suicide) Coalition for Mental Health, will visit Valley Park School District on Monday, February 27, 2012, to talk with parents about children's mental health. The Parent Symposium discusses the importance of letting go of the stigma attached to mental illness in order to become an acute observer of signs and symptoms of depression in one’s own child. The McCord's, Marian and her husband, Larry, founded CHADS Coalition in memory of their son, Chad, who took his own life in 2004 at the age of 18. The presentation provides personal accounts of dealing with a child battling depression and includes resources for families and skills to determine if one’s own child may be suffering in silence. The symposium will take place at Valley Park Middle School Cafeteria, One Main Street, Valley Park, Mo. 63088, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Monday, February 27th.
