Each month, we will recognize two outstanding students for their athletic performances in the preceding month. Recommended by their coaches, these student-athletes have excelled representing our school and our community and we are extremely excited to share their accomplishments with you.
Katie Mann – Softball
Katie is a leader on and off the field. Some of her highlighted stats from the season include a .449 batting average, 35 RBI's, and she led the team with 4 homeruns. Katie played and started at multiple infield positions throughout the year with an outstanding glove at each one. Her versatility to play multiple sports and positions makes her a special athlete. Congratulations Katie on being named a November Athlete of the Month.
Clayton Schumacker – Boys Soccer
"During my time as the high school soccer coach at Valley Park I have never had a team led by a single player. Typically this responsibility is spread across a variety of players who combine to satisfy the leadership role. That changed with Clayton Schumacker. Clayton led the Hawks as the sole captain and I could not have been more pleased. Clayton approached the role with humility towards his peers and a strong desire to compete out on the field. Clayton took younger players under his wing offering them help, advice and support throughout the season. Clayton took responsibility for the team and his play on the field. I can remember watching him pick up his teammates when they were down and then carry the team on his back when it was necessary. I have no doubt in my mind that the team's success can be attributed to the leadership of our captain, Clayton Schumacker," Coach Tom Probst. Congratulations Clayton on being named a November Athlete of the Month.
